Race Weekend

Never been to Race Weekend? Not sure what to expect? Here's a few notes about what to expect, based on my first race weekend.

This a fun weekend for everyone that is prepared to have a go at the gates. It's not just for hotshots but for everyone from 6-60+. There is keen competition for the top positions, but for the rest of us it's a fun challenge.

Some members and guests stay in the lodge for the days leading up to race weekend, others arrive on Friday night. Everyone is up bright and early on Saturday for brekkie and bib allocation, then out to catch Eagle chair as soon as it opens. A warm up run or 2 and then it's time to inspect the course.

The course is GS style, set so that it is doable by intermediates as well as experts. We share the course with Riverina Ski Club. Everyone gets a run, then we head back up and do it again. Results are based on combined time for the 2 runs.

With racing over, the rest of the day is available for free skiing.

While we have fun on the slopes, the Lodge Manager is busy preparing dinner. The kids eat together early while the grown-ups have nibbles and sample the chairman's choice of wines and beers. The tables are pushed together for maximum conviviality and we sit down to a great 3 course dinner. There are presentations and awards and more of the chairman's wines. A great night.

Race weekend does provide an opportunity for keen racers to test themselves against each other, but mostly it's a fun social weekend
